Started June 2, long before the "Simple Article Summary" explosion. Merged from two different threads.
Note that the infamous ScottishFinnishRadish said:
I've actually done a fair amount of experimenting around this using chatgpt 4.5. You can upload sources, PDFs work better than text for some reason, and tell it to only use them. It does a fair job of summarizing them together and providing the actual quotes and pages. I assume it would be able to do the same if you were able to provide all the sources in an article and ask it about facts in an article.
The biggest issue I've encountered is that it synthesizes quite a bit, which isn't really a bad thing unless you're specifically working on Wikipedia stuff.
Thus the snake eats its own tail. Whooo.
Notice how much space they spent blubbering about Wales's ugly shirt. Idiots.

To be fair, it was a really ugly shirt.
The AI issue is going to be the biggest one at WP over the next five years. The hatred for generative AI among Wikipedians is palpable; and the desire for WMF engineering careerists to add AI-something-something to their resume is irresistible... And Jimmy Wales is an absolutely unprincipled weeblewobbler in the middle who is gonna be freaking the fuck out about WP's falling traffic numbers, fearful that the money spigot will slow the flow of greenbacks...
Number two will be a series of lawsuits by litigious governments around the world. India, Russia, every right wing government on the planet... I wouldn't even put it past Trump to try the tactic.

You are correct, Tim, and I encourage you to post more frequently here. Especially about what's going on at WPO. Wee Billy has become good at WP-style "invisible censorship" and the like. I seriously wonder how many threads are vanishing because he doesn't want people to talk openly about some scandal or other.
