If you're old enough you remember Hare Krishnas harassing people in US airports, train stations, and shopping malls in the 1970s and 80s. "Nice to know" they backed off on the hard-sell practices. (Still don't like them.)

The book to read for all the scandals up to the late 1980s is Monkey on a Stick: Murder, Madness, and the Hare Krishnas by Lindsay Gruson and John Hubner. It came out in 1988, talks about the life and death of Swami A.C. Prabhupada, his successor, the Zone Gurus, and all the ugliness involved with taking 1960s-1970s middle class white people and making them live like 19th century Indian villagers. (I want to tack on that I consider ISKCON to be a cult for people who want to be vegetables -- the amount of hard thought to stay a Hare Krishna is minimal. You don't have that striving to be Clear or to reach OT III like in Scientology; there are no levels, you just do the dead-end Hare Krishna jobs they assign you at the compound and live your fake Indian life.)

But that's what the Azov Nazis want people to believe. Just because the president is Jewish doesn't mean antisemitism is gone overnight. Obama was president but that doesn't mean racism and generational inequality disappeared overnight.
