Wikiquote is broken and no one cares

This is something I just had to tell Graaf Statler, who is incensed that Dutch-language Wikiquote has been hijacked by Engelfriet and his idiot supporters.

It's pointless to worry about ANY Wikiquote project. They are all failures, and they are all little-used. Consider some of the shit you can find on English Wikiquote.

They have a good selection of quotes from actual famous thinkers. What they SHOULD have. All well and fine.

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Gautama_Buddha
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Mahatma_Gandhi
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King,_Jr.

But they also have equal-or-greater mountains of "quotes" from pop-culture crap. Cleverly written as it may be, since when is the TV show Supernatural of "great cultural importance"?

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_1)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_2)

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_4)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_5)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_6)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_7)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_8)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_9)
https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Supernatural_(season_10)

It finally tapers off after that. Almost all of the Supernatural crap is courtesy of Allixpeeke.

And look at this.

Who?

All of the above was taken straight off the front page of Wikiquote. It can NOT be used as an "index".

You can thank longtime WQ administrator Kalki for a lot of this crazy shit, along with an assortment of IP addresses and random accounts. He "protects" the good and the crappier content. I think he's some kind of "discordian" hippie crackpot with plenty of free time. Loves Tolkien. So of course WQ also has a ton of Tolkien.

Wikiquote is saturated with nerd garbage. It's good you don't have to go thru the garbage to get the important content....unless you're stupid, and use the front page as an index.....

Does the content skew to witches, supernatural t.v. shows, and the like? Bit odd that.

It's just your average insane fanbase - give it time and the fans of Steven Universe, The Amazing World of Gumball, and other Cartoon Network shows will jam-pack the site with every line, so look out for "Why won't you let me do this for you, Rose?!?" and "Don't look at our crotches while we synchronize our watches!" And if we are truly unlucky, lines from Disney's Star vs. The Forces of Evil like "You and I aren't really that different, you know. We both like magic and...other stuff. What I'm trying to say is that I really appreciate you and all you've done for me, and if you're not letting me write in you because of something I did or I said...all right, I'm just going to come right out and say it. [beat] I love you, book! I do! And I would be honored if you would let me write in you."
