Wikipedia Sucks!

Molly is one of those people with no particular talent or insight thats famous for being famous. She's being made out in the media as some sort of crypto oracle but she never had an original thought in her life.

Her biggest accomplishment in life was being on arbcom and I find that sad frankly.

Its also ridiculous they call her a software engineer, but what has she done? I've done more software development that benefitted wikioedia since being banned than she has as an arbcom member and functionaries.

She was one of the few (only?) people attempting to represent the Wikipedia community leadership. And here we are, a Wikipedia page on her written by her WP peers.

And yea they put 'software engineer' as her first qualification. I'm sure she's fine as a software engineer but that's not what she's known for... at all.

Proper first sentence would be "one of the most visible public representatives for the Wikipedia community and a twitter.com user who criticizes Web3"

--The WMF "eats" her - she self destructs in the eyes of Wikpedia/WMF
--The WMF absorbs her - she gets a fulltime job at WMF to shut her up

At present, she is a big liability for Wikipedia and WMF. (she is not a leader of any kind).

My interaction was a brief exchange on Twitter, and ended up blocking her on there, maybe over a year ago? So I have no idea if she's autistic.

She uses an anonymous author at some obscure political think tank to criticise prior Wikipedia authors she had issue with in one of her pages. They were asked how an anonymous author writing in an obscure think tank qualifies as RS and no one answered. They are not a good actor at Wikipedia.

My impression of her (and a few others at WP) is that of someone who uses Wikipedia as Encyclopedia Dramatica.

She does seem to be someone who takes up public activism in a mirroring way. Arriving extremely late to subjects and broadbrushing them with digital journalism doesn't constitute originality. The vast, vast majority of crypto is indeed a scam or desperate attempt to get money at any cost. It's not, by any means, all a scam, as she implies.

Cryptocurrency currently has some limited usages which some marginalized people find very valuable outside of it's usage as an investment vehicle. Cryptocurrency is often the only way to fundraise for left-wing and whistleblower activists across the globe marginalized by their respective governments. But yea, the crypto investment and development space filled with creepy and amoral right-libertarians. She is not at all the first person to point this out.

Most of her activism though seems to just result in pushing to ban everything she writes about, through her overzealous broadbrushing. In her writing, everything is either all good or all bad. Yes it's an autistic trait, but I don't like psych labels. Banning crypto payment acceptance would be dumb, (and very unlikely) but her writing implicitly and explicitly advocates that.

If herself and others help accelerate popping the crypto *price and copycat* bubble, there's nothing bad about that, and it would be great.

Right-wingers flail about trying to criticize this WP boss. I think she just gets too under their skin and so they end up seeming more ridiculous and mean than White herself.

IMO a good summary criticism of White is "tends to use Wikipedia as Encyclopedia Dramatica, paints things as all good or all bad, and as a consequence, overzealously pushes for witch hunts against an unreasonable scope of online activity"

"all crypto is a scam" -> unreasonable scope
"vast majority of crypto is a scam" -> reasonable scope
"involuntary sexual abstinence is not real, and those who claim so are an emerging ideological terrorism threat" -> unreasonable scope
"x incel forum(s) is/are engaging in borderline illegal advocation of hate crimes" -> reasonable scope
"x pundit/site is defined in first sentence by all that which is negative" -> ED like criticism
"here is what x pundit/site actually advocates/services in lede, with list of controversy later on" -> non-ED-like criticism
