Graphs don't work because WMF developers are idiots

For WMF employee / slave nonsense, developer hijinks, and MediaWiki and related software screw-ups.

Now they're just killing it permanently with the vague suggestion that they'll implement something else.. "eventually".
It's been a YEAR now. And it appears hell will freeze solidly over before they do anything. Meanwhile the Solar power in Australia article has two prominent dead charts:

That's the problem of letting amateurs run the whole thing.

I don't think about Wikipedia much anymore, but found this interesting

Graphs were removed due to security issues in April 2023 - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T334940

The last update was in April 2024 - still no fix... https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Graph/Plans
Can confirm, still no fix so far.

a quick peek at Template:Graphs disabled shows that only one mainspace page is displaying the template. maybe they managed to implement charts as a replacement. the Phabricator page is very quiet lately.

Update: New graph extension available in beta, although the time it takes to fix the graphs is still unusually long though.

Two threads about the same thing merged to here.

I poked around a bit for examples of their switch to Apache eCharts. Damned if I can find any evidence it's being used on live WP or Commons pages today. Lots of talktalktalk, not much fixing.

This is how MediaWiki was always "developed" in the past: in a thrashing, semi-competent, but little-discussed manner outside their inner circles. With a weird overlay of paranoia and secrecy. Other major open-source developers (FSF, Linux Foundation, Mozilla etc.) have their problems but MediaWiki makes them look STABLE by comparison.

The primary developer behind this Charts plug-in is WMF employee Roan Kattouw. He's been working on MediaWiki for seventeen years. And I'm really not sure he's "improving" anything. Feel free to disprove my statement.
