Jimbo has a "garage sale"

Post by ericbarbour » Fri Dec 03, 2021 11:11 pm

https://www.engadget.com/jimmy-wales-wi ... 30170.html
Starting today, you can bid in a Christie’s auction to obtain an NFT of his first Wikipedia edit. Wales is also auctioning off the Apple iMac he used to work on the website. Bidding on the non-fungible token will start at $100, though we expect it will take several million to secure it before the auction ends on December 15th. Proceeds from the sale will go to charity and WT Social, Wales’ Facebook and Twitter alternative.

And rather predictably, it has become a power struggle between Jimmy and the people (person) who thinks he's the real boss of Wikipedia, Floquenbeam.

A couple of things are undermine his case.

1. If you feel like you even have to ask if you can apply what you claim is local policy to Jimmy, then clearly there already is a Jimmy exception (so you're simply grandstanding to complain there's a Jimmy exemption)

2. Who seriously believes this is a 'why does Jimmy get to do this and we can't' situation? I don't see anyone beating a path down to Floquenbeam's door so they can auction one of his Wikipedia edits for millions of dollars.

We don't need to check what Wikipediocracy thinks of all this. You can be 100% certain they see Floquenbeam as a hero and Jimmy as a piece of shit.

It's a shame they don't see that Floquenbeam has done nothing to earn his status as Pretender to the Throne, other than be ten times the asshole Jimmy ever was.

And why can he get away with that? Because nobody knows who Floquenbeam is. He can shit all over you on Wikipedia, and you have no idea which house to throw a brick through the window of.

HTD.

It's actually even more ridiculous once you get into the weeds.

Floquenbeam postures....
I'm trying to imagine any other editor on this site getting away with this. I can't. It would be removed from their page, and they'd be blocked if they restored it.
Oooh, sounds really serious.

But getting away with what, exactly?

We'll set aside Jimmy's claim he's merely posting about this because he was asked to and thinks the community would want to debate it, and his (extremely persuasive) argument that how could anyone possibly think his Wikipedia talk page is where he's going to find potential bidders?

What Floquenbeam can't imagine anyone else getting away with is....

1. Doing something on Wikipedia that benefitted Wikipedia.

2. Posting about your good work on your Wikipedia user page, with a link to an auction where you can bid for it, even though that thing is freely available on Wikipedia in a different form.

3. Stating you plan to donate a significant proportion of the moolah to charity (including the WMF) and use a significant proportion to fund a personal business that adds to the Wikipedia ecosystem by transforming the landscape of online news and social media.

What a fucking monster.

And how ironic that Floquenbeam's eagerness to show everyone how big and tough he is, has actually prevented people who had legitimate concerns, such as what those proportions will be, and what, if anything, the implied third unexplained slice of the pie is to be used for (please be hookers and cocaine, the wikishits would lose their damn minds), cannot now do so in an open and transparent manner.

I'm quite sure if we did some digging, there will probably be quite a few Wikipedia editors "getting away with" this specific kind of OUTRAGEOUS CAPITALIST EBIL.

I'm thinking any of the major partnership stuff.

This is where Floquenbeam comes out looking like quite the petty jealous little prick. A side effect of his choice to be an anonymous coward, is of course that he's never going to be personally troubled by such things, because he doesn't do a damn thing for Wikipedia in the monetary / value sense.

He "volunteers" in other ways, ways that funnily enough always seem to suggest his only interest in Wikipedia is for its opportunities to dress up in snazzy black uniforms and kick people in the balls for not following his Orderz.

He fought hard in Framgate, the hardest of anyone, for purely selfish reasons. He could see he was next.

Up above I was actually going to make a joke about how Floquenbeam probably could find some bastard dictator out there (particularly one of the ones that professes to be the caretaker of a socialist paradise) who would bid for his singular act of rebellion in restoring Fram to his rightful place as one man roving Wikipedia death squad.

But fuck me if the asshole wasn't already making his own jokes about it on his Wikipedia talk page....
For sale by... well, not exactly owner, but....

An NFT of me unblocking Fram. I will improve on the WMF's wise counsel and actually conduct the auction on Wikipedia (for transparency). --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:36, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
(I could have sworn there was a local policy against such things, or at least enough to allow a creative interpretation of existing policy that portrays it as a forbidden act, but hey, it's Wikipedia, like anyone there is brave enough to give Floquenbeam a taste of his very own Fram style beat down, to see how he likes them apples)

He really does deserve to have his windows put through, at the very least.

Come on Wikipediocracy. Condemn this two faced cowardly bully. Or I'll fucking do your windows in too. And you know I will. "Violent and unstable", me.

And of course, last but not least, a read of the AN/I thread shows that Floquenbeam still remains a worthy recipient of two broken legs if anyone ever finds out where he lives.

It really is classic Floquenbeam. He really doesn't have any other settings. Just Turbo Asshole.

He says what he thinks is the correct outcome per Wikipedia policy, implies others would be crazy for disagreeing with him, and makes statements that show he is either stupid or lying (who seriously believes he is unaware of the fact Jimmy and his talk page have NEVER been treated just like any other user).

And then when he gets the feedback HE FUCKING ASKED FOR, well, fuck me if he doesn't straight up IGNORE the parts which seem to prove he was indeed either being stupid or straight up lying.

To take one example....
.....I don't see that we have a policy against mentioning on a User (or User Talk) page something that a user is doing that (potentially) earns them money. There is >1 Wikipedian who has written a book which is on sale for money and they receive royalties from, and has mentioned the fact they've written a book on their user page and/or in talk page discussion. This situation seems analogous? ..... The Land (talk) 16:35, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Straight up ignored. Like it was never even said.

When challenged, he tells people, no, you're wrong to say there's no consensus for his action, it's there, he sees it, he acted on it, and that's really all there is to it.

You think I am exaggerating? No, he really is that much of a massive bellend....
.....I'm very comfortable with my evaluation that there's a consensus for this. ..... --Floquenbeam (talk) 18:08, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Prick.

And aside the general rule agaisnt it, why would it be a particular problem to have Floquenbeam marking his own homework here? Well, stupid fuck that he is, he either accidentally, or more likely because he just doesn't have to concern himself with the rules that apply to lesser Administrators, he happily revealed he has strong feelings and a likely prejudice in this matter in which he is Administratering.....
I do not care if he wants to auction this stuff. WP is famous because of the work of editors, and Jimbo is possibly going to make money off the backs of that work, but it wouldn't be the first time. But it seems reasonable to draw the line at him violating WP policy to publicize it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:44, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
This is Floquenbeam all over.

Doesn't give a shit about anything but what he believes. And what believes, is of course, what is true and right and just. Other editors only exist to marvel at his awesome work, or to be trampled under his boot.

He always, ALWAYS, turns situations like this into a scenario where you either have to accept he is right, EVEN in situations where he has an obvious prejudice and has made several glaring errors of judgement and basic fucking fact, or you have to roll up your sleeves and prepare for a fight.

A fight to the death. Otherwise known as an ArbCom case.

Which isn't worth it, because who the FUCK on ArbCom has ever shown they have the balls to do anything to an Administrator as powerful as Floquenbeam even when he is failing in his one sworn duty - always be resolving a dispute, rather than the cause of one.

Oh, and as a related aside, wtf is this shit?
This wouldn't be the first time Jimbo's activities onwiki were questionable... Izno (talk) 22:52, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
That's a candidate in the ongoing ArbCom election! Just casually tossing out serious accusations sans evidence. And he's likely to get seat too. This truly is the self governing Wikipedia of Fram/Floq, not policy or the WMF.

He who has the least shame, shall attain the most power!

If there is a dominant theme there, before and after he acted on the consensus he claimed he saw, it's that Floquenbeam has made a mountain outfit a molehill and needlessly quite deliberately caused a dispute rather than taking any of the other recommended Admin actions (including just doing nothing, because there are hundreds of other Admins and they aren't all in the pocket of Jimmy waiting for their share of his filthy auction maluka).

If that sort of problem attitude in an Admin reminds you of anyone, the supremely arrogant supremely disruptive lone wolf, it's because it comes straight from the Fram school of shit-baggery. He is so like Fram, he even signs off this dispute in a very classically Fram like way - restate all your arguments, assert what you have done is of great importance, and state that you are shocked that people you formerly respected have apparently lost their minds and are now working to destroy Wikipedia.

Always be ensuring the Drama Level is at 11 and that every situation is all about you. Just like they teach you at Wikipedia Administrator school.

I swear to God, you put Fram's signature on this shit, and people would totally believe he said it...
@Swarm: (and anyone else interested) I’m not sure whether someone who asks "what the hell?" and "do you really have nothing better to do?" is asking rhetorically or not. I suspect they are, but very briefly, I'll review, in case this is an actual question. I brought it here because I asked Jimbo to remove it himself and he wouldn’t. Because I couldn’t think of any other way to get a consensus, and Jimbo has enough political clout that it would not be wise to act against his wishes without consensus first (unlike how we would handle literally any other editor doing this). Because in spite of the fact Jimbo says it wasn’t promotional, it was promotional (read it if you haven't). Because he's being disingenuous in his explanation for how it couldn't possibly be promotional ("no Wikipedia editor is going to buy the NFT" does not mean it isn't building publicity and buzz, nor that it wasn't intended to). Why edit war? Because I waited for a consensus to form, and the people who reverted me felt they had a right to ignore that consensus, and either claim it didn't exist, or that their own opinion trumps consensus thru the magic of IAR. Because I find it important to the site’s long term success that we don’t take our ethics cues from the WMF Board. They have a financial interest in this being publicized too.In summary, because I don't think the mayor should be allowed to drive 55 mph in a school zone and not get pulled over, while we say "it's the mayor, relax". Because as our public face, he should be trying, actively trying, to be like Caesar’s wife, and we shouldn’t be trying to justify him instead doing questionable things by narrowly parsing policy wording. It’s apparently not getting re-added, so I’m fine if you think this discussion should be closed because discussion of inappropriate behavior is somehow more damaging to the encyclopedia that the actual inappropriate behavior itself. I'll try and think a little about why someone who's judgement I usually respect thinks onwiki advertisement is fine in this one case, if you'll do me the courtesy of thinking about why I might consider this important enough to address. I honestly do not think you've tried to do that yet. --Floquenbeam (talk) 01:36, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
Fuck me.

Isn't it always so nice to be told by a piece of shit like this that they're the ones who really care about Wikipedia's "long term success"?

I don't know why he hasn't got the memo, but Wikipedia is failing. And one of the reasons often given, is that ordinary editors get very sick, very quickly, of having to stomach the sight of all powerful Administrators like Floquenbeam getting away with shit they would never get away with, ironically.

Theoretically, an ordinary editor doesn't even get the chance to be in a position to hound someone like Jimmy over what is clearly a personal feud borne of jealousy, masked for convenience as an ethics dispute, never mind edit war because they claim they see the consensus to their advantage and so fuck you.

An ordinary editor is expected to never edit war, take note of when other people make salient points, address them ALL, politely and seriously, and if there is still no agreement, step back and let a NEUTRAL party divine the consensus path.

The normal rules don't apply to Floquenbeam, and the Admin conduct rules (necessarily higher) certainly don't.

He does what he wants. And you can see why. Nobody stops him. He gets his preferred outcome. All negative feedback is quicky and quietly forgotten.

Seriously, someone break his fucking legs, see if that stops the bastard.

Even if it doesn't, it's the right thing to do. Justice.

I mean, come on, if seeing someone act like that and get away with it so fucking easily, doesn't make you seriously angry, well, you're not normal my friend.

HTD.

Maybe break an arm too, just for being the sort of disgusting human who starts an AN/I thread on the obviously false premise that JIMMY IS NO DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER EDITOR, and then watch as that thread quite predictably becomes yet more proof that User:Jimmy Wales is unique in one extremely unedifying way, he being the only Wikipedia editor in the history of the site who isn't entitled to BLP protection.

Seriously, you can say any old defamatory shite about Jimmy in threads like this, nobody in the Wikipedia governance tree will stop you. There are no calls for retraction, no oversighting, no demands for diffs or gtfo, no utterance at all of the mantra extraordinary claims require exceptional evidence.

And so, perhaps we arrive at the real purpose as to why Floquenbeam decided to make this an issue.

Floquenbeam wants Jimmy gone for good. And it helps him in his aim if it becomes normal to see him being talked about on Wikipedia the same way he is talked about on Wikipediocracy.

He might even get the feeling he is no longer wanted, perhaps even hated. He will no longer enjoy communing with the community, afraid of what Floquenbeam will do to him next. You can already see the signs of frustration and exasperation in his comments.

If that sounds like harassment, we'll, as Wikipedia defines it, you would be right.

If you're wondering, Floquenbeam gets a free pass for that too.

He can do whatever the fuck he likes. Where do you think he even got the idea he would make a better King of Wikipedia than Jimmy?

The tragic truth for Floquenbeam is, for all Jimmy's faults, when you do a side by side comparison, it's Floquenbeam who clearly lacks class, decorum, ethics, and a general care for Wikipedia.

Break both his arms. Just for the hilarity of him not being able to lift that crown when he finally gets his dirty little undeserving mitts on it.

All be it, I think we know Vigilant will be standing ready behind him, waiting for the signal to bestow the Crown on the the Almighty.

The fifth of this world, the animals and subhumam, always know instinctively to rally around the worst of their kind.

Jimmy is well shot of it. They all secretly hate the fact that for all practical purposes, he checked out years ago, but was wise enough not to cut all ties, so he could keep taking credit. There have to be some benefits in this world of being Jimmy. Because he sure as shit has to put up with a whole load of nasty shite from his ungrateful community, their very leaders no less, the likes of which would have the likes of Floquenbeam screaming his head off, demanding his rights as a Wikipedia editor be protected in full.

Hopefully when that day comes, it's an issue he needs WMF assistance with.

I want to be there when they tell him, no, sorry, we cant afford the PR hit of being seen to help someone like you. We have our standards, a set of minimal behaviours that all local projects must abide by.

Perhaps you have heard of them? You fucking asshole.

And there it is......
Lol. Perhaps I'll decorate my user page with all the thousands of de minimus (or whatever the term is) logos on commons, and see if I can trick them all into thinking I'm a Wikipedia influencer. Even with the expected kickback to the WMF Board, I should still make out pretty well. DAMN. That Sprite was refreshing! I'd recommend it to everyone. Maybe I should nominate it for WP:TFP. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
The festering hatred of all things he cannot influence with his meagre en.wiki powers.

The term is "threshold of originality" you dumb prick, and no, unsurprisingly, your pathetic attempt to find an analogy here, has surely only reminded people that when it matters, when it's an important part of preventing misuse of Wikipedia, there are sufficient bright line rules that nobody needs to go falsely claiming a consensus, before they can be invoked.

The enforcement of which an edit war would lead to swift and severe consequences to ensure the legal status of Wikipedia is protected (and not that you've thought this far ahead, but should you ever get your dream and fork, it will presumably be you who has to issue that Order, from your executive office).

The question is, is en.wiki governance so far gone, is it possible that if Floquenbeam were to display logos on his user page as part of some pathetic anti-Jimbo anti-WMF protest, would anyone dare invoke a single one of those clear cut bright line policies?

Or would he just be allowed to get away with it, because WP:FLOQUENBEAM?

That you're not even sure, shows why it was necessary for the WMF to break Fram's legs when they did, as a warning. You should have heeded it, you fools, because I'm sad to say, you're clearly fucking stuck with this bastard acting as if he owns the place, lock stock and barrel, until such time as he finds another hobby. Could be a very long time.

You make it so easy for him to walk all over you, shit on everything you hold dear, where's he going to get that thrill anywhere else, for free anyway....

To be expected. I have no doubt that "Mr. Cohen" is furious that Jimbo can put out another stupid press release about his idiotic personal projects, and the media pays some attention. And the Wiki-Nobody shares similar hypocritical rage with various other admins and arbitrators. Jimbo was a manipulative narcissist in the right place/right time, they know it, and they HATE it. But can do nothing.

Floquenbeam went to massive lengths to hide his real identity, with the full support of other admins. So he will never be "internet famous" or any other kind of "famous". Hah.
