So how did this guy fund his lawsuit? I read somewhere that he's completely broke. Almost penniless.

Abd is a good faith user. Abd just handle Wikipedia as if it was his own blog, you simple can't expect he is some high level legal expert in the field of international copyright law, that is simple not his task. You can't expect he first has to go to law school with as specialism international CC licenses.
Abd is a very nice and friendly man who in no way has deserved the way he is treated. He himself is convinced he did nothing wrong. He is a American guy, how can he know in continental Europe copyvio is moral offence? That judges have no mercy and even a kid of 15 years old has to pay? (his parents has to, he is a minor.)

There is one way to find out how the judge will interpret the case. And what I did was file to find out. I love reality, it's far better than fantasy and complaints and empty speech. I've told Graaf many times that it is defamation, not deformation. I think he likes the pun. But something is deforming him, and I don't know what it is.

I funded my lawsuit, I've written the story, with $400 I had sitting in a drawer as an emergency fund. I have also written that I have received donations exceeding what I have spent so far, but there is no way that I will reveal information about who made those donations, and it is basically nobody's business. The lawsuit was my own idea, not promoted by anyone, though someone I know with extensive legal experience did tell me she thought I had a case. I certainly would never write that I am "broke," nor that I am "almost penniless," nor that I am "strapped for cash." None of these are true about me. And so you read garbage written by trolls, as if fact. Good luck with your life, you will need it with habits like that.

I'm also not a "wiki obsessive." I gave up on Wikipedia in 2011, was active on Wikiversity for a time and gave up on that as well, but merely, in 2017, dealt with a case of impersonation-to-defame, because I knew how to handle it, and that stirred up a hornet's nest.

I do have a lot of opinions about Wikipedia, having studied intentional communities for decades and having attempted to support empowerment of the actual community on Wikipedia, but I have up because it was way too far gone, probably not recoverable. And nothing since then has changed that impression.
