This guy cannot catch a fucking break. He invented Wikipedia some twenty odd years ago, and it's been A FUCKING NIGHTMARE ever since.

Only this week, as the English Wikipedia editors try to strip him of his last little bit of power on what they now very much see as their website (they'll get a fucking shock if the owners switch the lights off one day so they can deal with their rat infestation), the owners of Wikipedia are begging him to go to London to prevent the existential threat that is age verification legislation.

Jimmy is wisely focusing on what is important (maintaining the contacts that might one day see him made a British Peer of the Realm), and ignoring what is unimportant (the whining of powerless little bitches).

But still. What an absolute ballache, right?

They could, should and would have done something about it years ago, if Wikipedia was a mature and professional community with a clear collective aim to demonstrate to the world (or just the owners of Wikipedia) that they merit and deserve the powers to unilaterally and unaccountable run Wikipedia all by themselves.

They're doing something about it now because Jimmy did something to piss them off (but which didn't materially harm Wikipedia in any way and didn't involve his powers as appeal judge, rather his unique status as outsiders favourite Wikipedia fixer, a status that the ever jealous peons will never be able to remove), and being powerless little manchildren in absolute terms and relative to the mighty Jimmy, they have little to no other means to exercise their wicked spite.

NewYorkBrad has pointed out it is a moot issue that will likely just be a complete waste of everyone's time. And that's all he has done. Despite having the power to tell everyone to fuck off and go do something useful, which is an Administrative comment that is heard with much regularity in many other areas of Wikipedia even when matters of great import are at hand (such as why are experienced editors getting away with using terms like snowflake to insult their supposed collegues). Brad and his ever useless ilk of course actually having the greatest to benefit from Jimmy losing this last vestigal tail of theorerical power.

Once again, Daddy Jimmy has played a blinder.

Waiting for the children to finally settle down, he has now voluntarily given up that which He wasn't even doing because It's so crashingly boring and time consuming, namely being a final appeal court for routine ArbCom cases, while reserving and reassertng his right to dissolve ArbCom and call fresh elections in unusual circumstances. The times when the community needs someone to stand against injustice and stand up for their sovereign rights, as Jimmy says he has always done. Only if they wish it of course, but alas, that aspect has to be taken on trust, since the policy doesn't caveat Jimmy's power in that fashion. As befits a God, it is presented as Absolute.

Despite dropping a very big hint, people seem to have missed how scarily likely it is that Wikipedia shall find itself in this dire situation. The list of things the WMF expects ArbCom to step up and be a co-parent on, only grows larger. Jimmy is lobbying against the latest right now, the prospect of age verification. The likelihood of ArbCom having to make an unpopular decisions that the unruly and disloyal community genuinely hates, seems real to me.

Is this the Benevolent One's real motive? Does reserving this Awesome Power actually mean it should be easier for the community to accept unpopular decisions made by their governors?

Large numbers of them ALREADY hate Arbcom. Remember the Fram shitshow of four years ago? Most other edit nerds would have been permab& for abusing Arbcom verbally as he did. But he survived. And caused incredible chaos for months.
