Using internal Facebook data and projections to support their points, the data scientist said in their post that roughly 1 of every 1,000 pieces of content — or 5 million of the 5 billion pieces of content posted to the social network daily — violates the company’s rules on hate speech. More stunning, they estimated using the company’s own figures that, even with artificial intelligence and third-party moderators, the company was “deleting less than 5% of all of the hate speech posted to Facebook.” (After this article was published, Facebook VP of integrity Guy Rosen disputed the calculation, saying it "incorrectly compares views and content." The employee addressed this in their post and said it did not change the conclusion.)

Five years ago, Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, gave $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital, the city’s sole public hospital, where Chan was a pediatrician at the time. As part of the donation, the hospital was formally renamed the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Since then, Zuckerberg has emerged as a political piñata as Facebook grew in size and has been dogged by cascading scandals. And Zuckerberg’s troubles in his corporate life have increasingly boomeranged onto his charitable gifts, most notably at his and his wife’s eponymous philanthropy, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

And so after years of fits and starts, a group of hospital nurses, anti-Facebook activists, and progressive lawmakers on San Francisco’s board of supervisors began to mobilize this summer to push back against the hospital’s name. Rather than moving to officially rename it — which contractually could require returning the $75 million gift — the group decided to push for a middle ground: to condemn the name while leaving it in place.

That anger spilled out on Thursday before the Committee on Government Audit and Oversight, a panel on San Francisco’s board of supervisors.

Question: If Marky-Mark The Little Succ is so damn smart, why is this happening to him? Are we supposed to seriously think he's a "victim of outside pressures" when his own employees are leaving, and raging at him once out?

But an Accenture employee who manages 45 reviewers for Facebook told them to ignore patterns of fraud and hacked accounts as long as "Facebook gets paid" with legitimate payment methods so that it isn't on the hook for issuing refunds, BuzzFeed News reported, adding that the manager justified allowing hackers to run ads via hacked accounts because it was a win-win — more revenue for Facebook and a larger audience for the hacker.

Well folks, I've been remiss about updating this thread. FB's empire has been almost constantly in the news for its rotten business methods since the Cambridge Analytica scandal forced Tiny Lord Zucc-ee-poo to testify in front of Congresspeople. Despite being by far the most popular social website system, people are hating on it constantly. And using it to hate each other. Nearly all the examples of conservatives on Reddit's r/hermancainaward dying of Covid-19 after spluttering about it being a "Hoax" and vaccines being "the mark of the beast" came directly from Facebook. The extreme paranoid Christian right loves FB.

Last night Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen was interviewed on 60 Minutes. And ran off a litany of disgusting things Zuccworld was doing intentionally, to "improve engagement". And therefore jack their stock prices and profits. The item about Instagram making young girls depressed and suicidal disgusted me greatly.

It is being claimed this was a DNS problem due to some sort of mysterious BGP network crash. However, there are many people claiming this was intentional--as a "punishment" for Haugen going public. As if punishing their "users/victims" would have any effect on her personally.

Is Zuckerberg this petty and arrogant? Would not surprise me.

A FB employee posted about the outage, and quickly deleted his Reddit account---because media outlets were reporting his comment....plus there's this.

The entirety of "Internet history" from 2000-2020 has been a lesson in learning just how degrading these social media honchos want to make the online environment for certain populations of people. They will never go after us (you and I), because we look like most of the honchos.....but if you are Black, Hispanic, any branch of Muslim, Asian (including the Tatars, native Siberians, and all the ex-Soviet Central Asian "republics"*, and the many, many varieties of people from India or Red China), any variety of gay, or you are an activist in left-wing causes; well, they have built a Pain Palace designed to get under your skin, drive you mad, get you doxxed/possibly killed by the farthest-right (Patriot Prayer, the Proud Boys, whatever goonsquad de jour is hot right now). People are willing to ditch living online for their own sanity, and this Instagram story is one point of darkness in a Gigantic Black Hole of Suck.

* They aren't republics now, but on paper they were in the USSR, being run by their local Communist Parties, who would pass things on to Moscow and get orders from Moscow if the need was there. Now, if they were actually truthful in their dealings with the Kremlin is unknown to me. Turkmenbashi (i.e. an extreme cult of personality like the one Saparmurat Niyazov was running in ex-Soviet Tukmenistan) may have happened before in Central Asia and then been covered up, I don't know. What it do know is that breaking up the USSR was a bad deal for Central Asia, and they've been picking up the pieces ever since.
