So, Trump won.
Congrats to all Trump supporters.
The numbers are still coming in (Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and Maine are yet to come), and they show very interesting trends. Even in staunch Democrat states, there's been a noticeable shift to the right.
I guess I feel a bit bad for Harris -- she's a nice woman and I do believe America deserves a female president.
The election

There is a good chance this thread will be moved to the Off Topics for the simple reason that it has nothing to do with Wikipedia, Wikipediocracy, or other Wiki-criticism.

Re: The election
Although this thread is in the off-topic forum, I think one of the biggest losers in Trump's recent elections is Wikipedia. As has been observed, about 30-50 established editors and admins in Wikipedia have spent the last eight years trying to destroy Trump and Trumpism. A number of them have spent, with no exaggeration, thousands of hours, likely at great expense to their careers and personal relationships, making Wikipedia's voice about Trump as negative as possible. Obviously, their efforts were an abject failure. Hilariously, the Trump articles still contain the ridiculously biased prose, such as "Most experts agree that Trumpism is a neo-fascist political ideology." It makes Wikipedia look like a clown show.
Trump is in an even stronger position now than he would have been had he been reelected in 2020. Republicans control the House, Senate, and Supreme Court. Trump evidently has learned his lesson from 2017 when he asked the Republican National Committee (RNC) for help in staffing his White House and Cabinet, and they gave him a bunch of establishment stooges who made a complete mess of things (a good book on what happened is "Team of Vipers" by Cliff Sims). Trump is now picking staff and cabinet secretaries who will likely pursue his agenda much more effectively, although some of them may still struggle, like Noem in Homeland Security. BTW, President Trump, if you're reading this, don't put women in charge of immigration enforcement and deportations. They have too much empathy to be sufficiently ruthless for the job.
Trump has two years to get as much done to accomplish his agenda as he can, as the Democrats will likely regain control of the House in 2026. Once they're back in control, the Dems will bog him down with constant subpoenas and manufactured scandals. So, the next two years will be exciting to see how much he can get done. Trump isn't facing reelection, so he has nothing to lose. And, it looks like the Trump haters never will get to see him wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Re: The election
Which it has been since 2004-05, in general. They are doing the same campaign of rage-hatred they previously ran against the Dubya administration prior to 2008--cherry-picking sources and biasing the results.Cla68 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 3:48 amAlthough this thread is in the off-topic forum, I think one of the biggest losers in Trump's recent elections is Wikipedia. Heh. Honestly I do not expect much of his agenda to actually happen, no matter who he puts on the cabinet. Too many entrenched forces, too many lobbyists mucking the waters, too many cowardly Congresspeople on both sides of the aisle, too much bad history. The things he proposed that I would tend to agree with, like:BTW, President Trump, if you're reading this, don't put women in charge of immigration enforcement and deportations. They have too much empathy to be sufficiently ruthless for the job.
- term limits for both houses of Congress
- stopping the revolving door between regulators and the companies they regulate
- cutting back on drug prices, since Americans pay the highest prices in the world
- purging the Pentagon and intelligence communities of their "lifers"
- and some at-least-half-baked attempt to balance the budget
Also agree. But it won't stop them from bitching about it incessantly. He's 78 years old and quite obese, is prone to eating fast food, and so I would not be a bit surprised if he dies in office. Thus solving the "problem". So much idiocy on both sides. And, it looks like the Trump haters never will get to see him wearing an orange jumpsuit.
