For the record, soft serve ice cream machines are costly; difficult to maintain; difficult to repair; difficult to clean; you name it. They have become more sophisticated in recent years but are still costly headaches. Unless you make your own soft-serve by hand you will pay a premium for the "experience".
Besides, Taylor was recently taken over by Middleby, a giant manufacturer of commercial ovens that has been swallowing loads of smaller companies in recent years. Yes: that Wikipedia article has been paid-edited.
